Comfort and Sedation in Lynchburg and Forest

Comfort and Sedation

Patient comfort is a top priority at Forest Smiles. We are warm, friendly and understanding about your concerns. We will explain procedures clearly and answer all your questions. You can even watch TV during your treatment.

Relax with Sedation Dentistry

We understand that you may be hesitant about dental visits due to anxiety or fear. If you need extra help with anxiety or if you are undergoing a lengthy procedure, we can provide oral sedation or IV sedation. Dr. Claiborne will assess you and recommend an appropriate level of sedation for your procedure.

Oral Sedation:

With oral sedation, you will take a pill prior to treatment and be able to relax during the procedure. The oral sedative does not cause sleep, so you can still answer questions or follow instructions.

IV Sedation:

For a deeper state of relaxation, Dr. Claiborne also provides IV sedation. This is especially useful for patients with medical conditions such as asthmatic or heart conditions. After a detailed consultation, Dr. Claiborne recommends the most suitable option for each patient.

Nitrous Oxide:

Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is the lightest form of sedation. This type of sedation is offered as a gas that is inhaled during the procedure for a light relaxing effect.
Once the procedure is completed, the gas is completely “blown off,” with no after-effect. If you feel comfortable, you can even drive yourself home afterward.
